May 2011

Not even as a teenager did I ever have a problem with undesirable zits. I never knew what it was to pop a pimple and the only face products I ever used were water, soap and moisturizer. What in the world is going now that I’m in my thirties?

If I could only go back to those beautiful early years, when stress, was not in sight. Yes! Stress! Just writing about it makes me break out. It is all in my chin, two or three nasty stubborn blemishes. From experience I know it is all stress related.
Have you ever been in my skin? If you can relate and are struggling with this problem, you may have to join me not only at clearing your mind but also your face.

Let the month of May be your “ME” month. No, it is not selfish to set time aside every day just for you and it can be accomplished even when you are surrounded by co-workers, children, relatives or friends.

  • First and foremost, find a hobby or distraction which you may find therapeutic. I have been working out daily now for 3 weeks, and; recently with the beautiful weather, I began running. Wow, have I sweated stress away!! Thanks to my amazing husband, I am fortunate to have 30 minutes right after work every day.
  • I am also learning how to play guitar so I spend at least 15 minutes a day practicing a song. Usually after dinner, while my children are having dessert. So, far I had 45 minutes to “me” time.
  • I have continued to take my supplements as usual and have added a few extra. For example, I am taking extra zinc, extra Omega 3 and I am taking two antioxidants called Resveratrol and Turmeric. Please consult with me or your doctor before taking any supplements. Turmeric for example can cause an allergic reaction in those who have allergies to peanuts.
  • Avoid sugar, chocolate, caffeine and fatty foods. These foods do not trigger acne, but they can prevent healing.
  • I started to steam my face once a week and it works wonders. I actually close my eyes and relax for 5-10 minutes under a towel. I place a drop of Lavender into hot water.
  • I have been eating fresh meals that are low in fat, high in fiber with nutrients that help out my skin: vegetables, fruits, white meat, foods that contain omega 3, 6 or 9.
  • Drink water. I think I always advise on drinking water on every newsletter I write.
  • Sleep at least 7 hours at night.
  • Take time before you go to bed every night to reflect on your day and let go of negative thoughts.
