October 2010 Recently, I had the opportunity to promote my business at my “town day”. It was a great experience overall. Many people approached me on their own, interested to know more about health and nutrition. In order to attract more people to my table, I was giving away water, granola bars, and organic lollipops. I also held a contest to win a free consultation. There was a glass bottle with a certain amount of tablets that people needed to guess in order to win! Would you have given it a try? After all, it was $100 value for free with no strings attached. My table was set up right next to a table that was representing one of our local churches. There were many people who stopped at my table and were eager to talk to me right on the spot and others who signed up for further information. Many gave the “guessing game” a try hoping to win a free consultation. However, the majority of the people walking by not only intentionally avoided my table, as soon as they realized what I was offering, but also made comments after I invited them to come near. Comments like: “I don’t think anyone can help my eating habits”, “I’m too old to make any changes”, “I have given nutrition a try in the past and it hasn’t worked for me”, “I think I’m OK, I’m only a few pounds over weight”, “If I won the free consultation, you will be wasting your time with me”, “Oh, let someone who deserves the consultation win, I’ll be a failure”. I looked over at the church table and realized, wow, we are both getting the same type of reactions from people. My offer and the offer from the church were free but I realized that it takes commitment, it takes discipline, and it takes faith to take a step towards change. People don’t want to give change a try. In the case of nutrition, there are a lot of comfort foods that would need to be avoided in order to become healthy, to lose weight, to become energized and to reduce stress. There would be a lot of foods that would require incorporating into one's diet and perhaps these are not everyone’s favorite choices. I have to admit that I was discouraged by the lack of commitment people have on their health overall. However; I also know that it takes a personal conviction to come to that crossroad in order to dedicate your body to a healthy lifestyle. I can only offer my services and guidance, but I can not force them on anyone. I really hope that as you read this newsletter you are encouraged to become, or remain healthy through exercise and nutrition. I am happy to announce that 3 people won the free consultation, however; only one person ended up making an appointment and this person is extremely excited and eager to meet with me. I will make sure that every second spent with me is worth his time. Do you have the discipline that it takes to be healthy? How much do you value your health and your body? I hope you are encouraged to make simple and small changes, these changes will lead to bigger ones and before you know it, you’ll be a person you would never imagine you could become. Find that crossroad in your life!!!! Newsletter Archive: (click to read) August 16 - 23, 2010 |
